An extremely rare, interesting pair of mezzotints. Plate ‘a’ shows the interior of a boy’s classroom, with boys standing around a master who is admonishing a smaller boy. He has seized the child by one ear and waves a birch menacingly. Beneath are derogatory verses. Plate ‘b’ shows a lecherous old schoolmaster, seated at his desk, tickling the chin of one of his pretty young pupils. Other little girls laugh and giggle, while in the background one ties her garter. Beneath are verses admonishing parents to choose instructors wisely and condemning old men who lust after little girls.
