A caricature portrait of General Arabin. He is dressed as an army officer, wearing epaulettes, sword, and gorget. He stands with hands on his hips, his cocked hat in his left hand, and turns his head to the left, with a broad, ogling grin, showing a Jewish profile. On his head is a spotted foulard or night-cap, its peak on his shoulders. Before the title reads; (Sir Call;O’Brall:). Arabin was in Angelo’s opinion, the best amareur actor in the Pic Nics, and outstanding in anecdote, song, and imitation. William John Arabin, Supernumary Lt. – Col. In the 2nd. Life-Guards, was gazetted Major-General in 1798. Sir Callaghan O’Branaghan, a general in the Prussian army , is the irish suitor of the heiress in Macklin’s farce, Love a la Mode. The Jew broker, Mordecai, sneered at him, saying ‘if I was a General….’. The Irishman retaliated, saying; ‘You a General…Pray Madam look at the general—ha,ha,ha!’ BM 9917
