Returning from Brooks’s

London, G Humphrey, April 18th. 1784

Old hand colouring

240 x 170 mm

An inebriated Charles James Fox, identified by a lable inscribed Fox attached to his hat, is being escortred away from his club by two men, supporting him by his arms. Brooks’s, halfway up St James’s Street, has a well known association with the life and gambling of Charles James Fox and its central part to the formation of the 19th-century Whig party.
