Easing the Tooth-ach.

London, H. Humphrey, May 7th. 1796

Original hand colouring

225 x 190 mm.

A dentist (right) stands pulling at an instrument in the mouth of his patient, whom he holds by the jaw. The victim, in profile to the right, is perched upon a high stool, and clutches his right shin, while his left foot is pressed against the dentist's knees; expression and attitude register pain and anger. Probably from an amateur's design, signed on the plate as Engrav'd by T. As [Gillray]. BM 8909

From the collection of Dr. C.S. Warren, Descendant of Dr. Joseph Warren of Bunker Hill fame.
