An extremely fat, but still comely woman, sits in the centre of the design, wearing a bright yellow dress and flower trimmed hat, and fanning herself with a green fan. On the left stands her pot bellied, perspiring ‘cit’ husband who exclaims that his pockets are bulging with provisions for the voyage to Margate, while on the right a slovenly manservant announces that the Sailor Man has sent word as how the Wessel is ready to Swim ! Margate was a resort mostly patronised by ‘cits’ and tradesmen. BM 11968.
