Ioannes Pierus Valerianus
Ca 1650
185 x 135 mm
A fine impression of this portrait of Piero Valeriano Bolzani (1477–1558), favourite of the Medici family. His 'Hieroglyphica' was the first Renaissance dictionary of symbols; his poem "Pierus", written in a 1549 with the line arranged in the shape of a pear, is an early example of concrete poetry, became known throughout Europe, even reaching England.
