Peter Van Bleeck after Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn

Rembrant Van Ryn

London, 1747

Two neat marginal repairs

A rare mezzotint portrait by the Flemish engraver Peter Van Bleeck (1697-1764), of Rembrandt as a young man, painted in 1632. He is depicted half length, enclosed in a square frame, with oval ends, wearing a flat velvet cap with gold band, fur trimmed coat and gold chain. Van Bleeck seems to have come to London in 1723, and specialised in portraits of actors and artists.
